Second Life is a Germany-based environmental NGO leveraging drone technology and AI to address plastic pollution and broader environmental challenges. Through innovation, research, and cross-sector collaboration, we support data-driven environmental action at local, regional, and international levels.

The Public Affairs Department leads Second Life’s external engagement, partnerships, and strategic positioning across institutions, networks, and communities.

Role Overview

As an African Outreach & Partnerships Intern, you will support Second Life’s engagement with African NGOs, research institutions, community organizations, and mission-aligned partners.

This is a learning-oriented, hands-on internship designed for students or early-career professionals interested in sustainability, environmental justice, international collaboration, or Africa-focused development and policy contexts. You will work under the guidance of an Outreach & Partnerships Team Lead and the Public Affairs Director, contributing to research, coordination, and outreach activities while learning how ethical, non-extractive partnerships are built and maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Research

  • Research African NGOs, research institutions, community organizations, and networks aligned with Second Life’s mission
  • Monitor regional environmental initiatives, sustainability programs, and collaboration opportunities
  • Support background research for outreach and partnership discussions

Partnership Support

  • Assist with preparing outreach materials, partnership briefs, and collaboration summaries
  • Support documentation of partner contacts, meetings, and next steps
  • Help organize partnership-related information and follow-up actions

Coordination & Communication

  • Support coordination between Public Affairs, program, and Communications teams
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and preparing notes or summaries when needed
  • Participate in outreach and team meetings, providing updates on assigned tasks

Visibility & Collaboration (Optional, depending on interest)

  • Support collaboration with the Communications Team to highlight partnerships and local initiatives
  • Assist with collecting basic summaries or metrics related to outreach activities

Qualifications

Required

  • Fluency in English
  • Reliable internet connection and remote work setup
  • Availability for up to two team meetings per week(Afternoon EU/Africa time zones or morning US time zones)
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or higher
