Internship Overview
The Head of Media & Communications Department Intern is a leadership-focused internship designed for emerging professionals seeking hands-on experience in strategic communication, media coordination, and team leadership within an international NGO environment.
In this role, the intern will help oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of Second Life’s media and communication activities, while guiding a creative volunteer team that may include designers, copywriters, social media contributors, and content creators.
This internship is ideal for candidates who combine strong communication instincts with organizational leadership potential and are eager to gain experience managing media strategy in a mission-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Coordination
- Support the management and coordination of the Media & Communications Department
- Help assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure smooth collaboration across media team members
- Facilitate communication between creative contributors and leadership teams
- Assist in setting departmental priorities aligned with organizational goals
Media Strategy & Communication Planning
- Contribute to the development of communication strategies for campaigns, announcements, and public outreach
- Oversee content calendars and support coordination of publishing schedules
- Ensure messaging remains consistent across digital platforms and campaigns
Content Oversight & Brand Development
- Review media outputs including graphics, written content, and social media materials
- Support brand consistency across visual and written communications
- Help shape storytelling approaches that communicate environmental impact clearly and effectively
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work closely with public affairs, partnerships, technology, and leadership teams on campaigns and organizational initiatives
- Coordinate communication support for events, campaigns, and announcements
- Translate organizational developments into public-facing narratives
Qualifications
Required
- Strong interest in media, communications, public relations, or digital storytelling
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong organizational and coordination abilities
- Leadership potential with ability to guide collaborative teams remotely
- Ability to manage multiple communication streams effectively
Desirable
- Experience in communications, journalism, media management, branding, or NGO communications
- Familiarity with social media strategy and digital campaign planning
- Experience coordinating creative teams or leading collaborative projects
- Background in communications, media studies, public relations, marketing, or related fields
Time Commitment
- 10-15 hours per week, flexible scheduling depending on campaign cycles
- Duration: 3–6 months, extendable upon mutual agreement
