Second Life e.V. is a Germany-based environmental NGO leveraging drone technology, AI, and data-driven storytelling to combat plastic pollution and environmental degradation across Europe and Africa. Through collaboration with governments, NGOs, researchers, and local communities, we work to create transparent, scalable, and impactful environmental solutions.

The Media & Communications Department plays a central role in translating our work into clear, engaging, and mission-aligned narratives for a global audience.

Role Overview

The Social Media Manager (Volunteer) supports the growth and strategic development of Second Life’s social media presence across multiple platforms.

This role combines execution, strategy, and active engagement. You will help shape our digital voice, strengthen relationships with partners, and foster meaningful interaction with our audience—while staying deeply aligned with our mission, values, and tone.

This position is ideal for someone with hands-on social media experience who wants to apply their skills to environmental impact and purpose-driven storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Execution & Content

  • Execute social media activities across platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok
  • Publish content in alignment with the global media and campaign calendar
  • Write engaging, platform-appropriate copy for posts, stories, carousels, and short-form video

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Actively engage with posts from partners, collaborators, and aligned institutions
  • Amplify partner content through reports, comments, and thoughtful interactions
  • Participate in relevant conversations around environmental protection, policy, activism, and SDGs

Collaboration & Strategy

  • Coordinate with designers, video editors, and the Head of Media to ensure smooth production and publishing flows
  • Contribute to media strategy discussions and help shape Second Life's brand voice
  • Support experimentation and growth strategies for Threads and TikTok

Analytics & Improvement

  • Track engagement and performance metrics
  • Prepare short, regulars insights on reports to support content and strategy decisions

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in social media management (NGO, sustainability, activism, or international context preferred)
  • Strong understanding of major social platforms and their dynamics
  • Excellent copywriting skills with a strong sense of tone and storytelling
  • Ability to engage thoughtfully and confidently in real-time conversations

Desirable

  • Experience building or growing digital communities
  • Familiarity with environmental, sustainability, or policy-related content
  • Additional language skills
